Questions about Superbills
What is a Superbill?A superbill is an itemized receipt provided by us after your session. It contains information your insurance company uses to review a reimbursement request. It includes your identifying information, your therapist’s information, appointment dates, service and diagnosis codes, and the fees charged and paid. It can be helpful to call your insurance company to see if they allow reimbursement for superbills.
What should I ask my insurance company?Call the member services number on your insurance card and let them know you’re seeing an out-of-network mental health provider and you’d like to know if your sessions are eligible for reimbursement. Helpful questions include –
Does my plan include out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?
Are services from this specific therapist covered, given their license type and any supervision requirements?
What percentage of the session fee is reimbursed?
What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much remains?
After my deductible is met, what percentage will you reimburse, and what allowed amount will you use?
Are there any session limits or other requirements?
Do you require a specific diagnosis code for reimbursement?
How do I submit a claim, what documents are required, and what is the filing deadline?
How long does processing usually take, and how will any reimbursement be sent?
How do I get and submit a superbill?Let your therapist know you would like a superbill. We can provide it through our Client Portal. Once it is available –
Submit it to your insurer using their required claim form and submission method.
Keep a copy and any submission confirmation for your records. You handle the reimbursement request with your insurer. Receiving a superbill does not mean a claim has already been submitted.
What happens after I submit my claim?Your insurer reviews the claim and determines whether payment is available or an eligible amount applies toward your deductible. Processing times vary, so contact your insurer for updates.
